Our little micro business began when my children Jamie and Milly decided to buy 2 kid goats which they reared from a very young age, I was anxious by the idea but my children persisted anyway. With an early start every morning bottle feeding before school and after school began to be the norm at that time. What once were adorable kid goats grew in to adult goats, fell in love and had kids of their own.
As a result of my son having eczema I was told by a friend that goat milk could help to elevate the problem. I did a little research to discovered that goat milk has excellent beneficial value to the skin and also digestive system in comparison to cows milk.
It gently cleanses the skin without stripping away its natural moisture, goat milk contain a high level of fatty acids which supports the skins moisture barrier, natural lactic acid helps to remove dead skin cells, vitamins and minerals such as vitamin A along with minerals like selenium which is an excellent choice for dry sensitive irritated skin.
So then I knew that goat milk was gentle on the skin, cleanses, exfoliates moisturises and hydrates the skin along with anti-aging properties. This was a light bulb moment and asked myself I wonder could I make my own goat milk soap to elevate my son’s irritated skin.
So I began to trial small batches of different recipes after a lot of persistence I was happy with a particular recipe and decided to get it tested, from here the creation of Ivy Cottage Soap began. . I haven’t looked back since. We attend local farmers markets and craft fairs in the area. Then interest grew from family and friends we are now stocking our products in several stockists in the area.
From there we began to build a herd of goats holding on to the female kids so we stock piled a large volume of milk and began our journey of memories.
